Cliffs of Moher
Signs no Acrophobic (Yours Truly) Wants To See . . .
The Cliffs of Moher are incredible. They rise some 690 feet above the sea and extend for five miles. They are home to guillemots, puffins and other sea birds. The warning signs were not anything I wanted to see; apparently gusts of wind have swept people over the cliffs and the ground has also given way. The incredible beauty took my breath away and for a little time, I was able to stand closer to the edge (with a concrete wall to protect me) and look down on the flocks of seabirds.

The Burren
"Boireann" is Gaelic for "rocky land". This vast limestone plateau was described by Cromwell's surveyor in the 1640's as "a savage land, yielding neither water enough to drown a man, nor tree to hang him, nor soil enough to bury him." The burren, as our local guide, Mary, points out, is a unique environment for plants.
